HabitRPG The Nerdiest But Most Fun to-do List

HabitRPG

I have a confession to make.

I’m slightly nerdy.

For anyone that knows me in real life that’s probably not a huge surprise. I’ve always read a lot, been interested in electronics, I’ve even worked on mathematics problems just to find out something I was curious about. Not all nerdy things are positive though. I used to love video games, I was totally addicted. More than once I planned to play for an hour or two in the evening and stopped only as the sun was coming up and I had to go to work. At least the older games had an ending.

Online games were not good for me. Combining the addictive qualities of gambling (ie. randomly occuring rewards) with the addictive qualities of video games was a deadly mix. Now that they were online the games didn’t even end, you could play 24 hours a day and still be no closer to finishing the game. I’m ashamed to say I used to be a World of Warcraft nerd. It never contributed anything positive to my life. Which is why I totally quit gaming. I don’t even play console games anymore.  Like a reformed crack addict I don’t even go near them anymore.

HabitRPG

Until I discovered a new RPG. It’s just as nerdy as other RPG’s maybe not as addictive but it does have positive benefits. You can upgrade your character, get new weapons and armour as you advance. But the best thing about it is that you advance your character by advancing your real life. As you complete positive habits in real life you can tick it off in HabitRPG and get experience points, gold and other imaginary prizes. As you succumb to bad habits you lose some life (a bit like real life). Yes, you could just lie and say you completed things but if you’re going to lie to an app it probably won’t help you much anyway.

It is totally text based and there’s no actual gameplay but it is possibly the most fun to do list ever made and it’s free for individuals.  You can check it at habitrpg.com

I think I better go and ride my motorbike and see if I can redeem some of the cool points I lost by writing this post….
